EverTrue Selected for Redevelopment of Historic Cleveland High School
EverTrue was selected be part of a group redevelopment effort that aims to bring new life to one of St. Louis’ most recognizable historic buildings — the historic Cleveland High School Property.
“The Cleveland High School project represents a unique opportunity to preserve an important piece of St. Louis history while addressing the overwhelming demand for high-quality affordable senior housing,” shared Adam Marles, EverTrue President and CEO in a statement to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “While there is tremendous enthusiasm for the project, its future depends on the award of Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, which are essential to bringing this vision to life.”
Missouri currently has approximately 1 million adults age 65 and older, and the 60 to 69 year demographic is also the fastest growing age segment in the state. With approximately 12% of those seniors living in poverty, EverTrue hopes projects like this will help meet the demand for affordable senior-appropriate housing required in the next decade.
The redevelopment is contingent upon securing competitive Low-Income Housing Tax Credits and other public and private financing necessary to support a project of this scale. EverTrue and its partner organizations will find out in December if the project has been awarded these credits.
EverTrue was selected due to its expertise in creating both new affordable housing communities like EverTrue Crossroads at Bevo Mill and renovating historic spaces for affordable housing, like with EverTrue Village at Mackenzie, also a former school. With it’s mission focused on Older Adults Living Life to the Fullest, EverTrue is committed to creating communities where older adults can live independently, remain connected to their neighborhoods, and thrive with access to services and opportunities that support aging well.
