Sister Mary Ann Mehuys
“I had a strong inner sense that becoming a nun was what was right for me.”
Sister Mary Ann’s journey began long before she entered the convent. As a young girl, she was always captivated by the stories of saints and the teachings of Christ. “I had a strong inner sense that becoming a nun was what was right for me,” she said.
Growing up in a tight-knit Catholic family, she was encouraged by her parents to attend Mass regularly, participate in church activities and develop a deep personal relationship with God. Their example of unwavering faith and love for one another instilled in Sister Mary Ann a sense of devotion that grew as she did.
Her family, ever supportive of her decision, stood by her as she took the bold step of entering the convent. The convent was not just a place of prayer but a place of learning, growth and service. Sister Mary Ann had the privilege of attending classes that would prepare her to be a teacher, and it was here, surrounded by other women who shared her passion for serving God, that she began to understand the depths of her vocation.
She was more than a teacher to many — she was a mentor, a spiritual guide and a source of strength during difficult times.
Though her life as a nun was devoted to others, Sister Mary Ann never lost sight of the importance of nurturing her own spiritual life. She regularly attended Mass and prayed the Rosary, finding peace and solace in the familiar rhythms of her faith.
Now, Sister Mary Ann lives at EverTrue Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria, IL, where she continues to practice her faith. Though she no longer teaches, she remains active thanks to the many opportunities for growth.
Sister Mary Ann’s life has been one of unwavering faith, deep love for God and a commitment to serving others. Her heart is full, knowing that she has followed her path with joy and humility, and she continues to be a beacon of light and love to all who meet her.
