Carolyn Miller
"I think it's important to keep learning and doing new things."
“I’ll try!” That’s Carolyn Miller’s motto. As a retired nurse and long-time pastor’s wife, she has spent decades pouring her time and talents into supporting others. Whether or not she believed she had the necessary skills, she knew she could try!
Today at EverTrue Lutheran Home at Topton her compassionate nature continues to shine. Her volunteer work is something she holds dear, particularly when it comes to transporting fellow residents to doctor appointments and to church services. “I like it because it allows me to transfer some of my nursing skills,” Carolyn explains. “I talk to the people and get to know them.”
Her willingness to jump in and help led to her unexpectedly becoming the pianist for the community, despite only having a few piano lessons as a child. “I play piano, but not well,” she recalls. Over the years she has “plunked” out songs for church services as needed but never considered herself a pianist. However, when she found that the choir didn’t have a pianist to accompany them, she said, “I’ll try!”
“I’m really not good at all,” she laughs. There may be some wrong notes, but no one minds and it’s a fun way to grow and gain new skills.
Carolyn is always looking for ways to connect with others, whether coordinating recreational games for her friends or attending cooking classes, she is living life to the fullest! “I think it’s important to keep learning and doing new things.”
