“I had been busy and gave golf up until Florida and then it happened! I got my hole in one!”

Few things are as satisfying as getting a hole in one – the rarest of feats of which every golfer dreams.

Janey Gurysh, resident of EverTrue Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village knows. She and her entire family – two sons, her husband Ken and herself – have each hit a hole in one.
“We are a golfing family. It is good family time,” she shares.

Janey and Ken each followed varied professional paths – from barbering to shoe sales, woodworking and a construction business for him and a medical administrative career for her – but golf was always at the center of their lives.

Her husband, Ken, taught her and both of their sons to play. She laughs that Ken built his career around making time for the golf course!

Golf provides opportunities for exercise in the outdoors, connection with others and helps to build such qualities as determination and focus, said Janey. “He was always teaching the kids, and I enjoyed the beautiful scenery of the golf course,” she reminisces.

The odds of someone making a hole in one in golf are 12,500 to 1. Janey proudly recalls when each of her family members had their special moments.

Their oldest son hit his first while on a golf team in high school. “We were so excited – couldn’t believe it!” He went on to become a golf coach.

Their youngest son hit his while engaged as an intern at the Saucon Valley Country Club. He is now a golf professional in the Chicago area.

Janey and Ken each had to wait a bit longer for their hole-in-one, but that made it all the sweeter. In 2017, Janey had gotten back into the swing of golfing after retiring and having more time to devote to her interests. She found herself on a Florida golf course when she made her hole in one. “I had been busy and gave golf up until Florida and then it happened! I got my hole in one!”

A year later, Ken had his also on a Florida golf course. “He has golfed since he was 10 and didn’t have it until his early 70s,” she exclaimed. “It was so striking that each of us had a hole in one!”

Janey’s hole-in-one moments extend far beyond the golf course. Ever since moving to EverTrue Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village nearly two years ago, she’s discovered countless ways to share her skills and passions, transforming her new home into a vibrant center of creativity, camaraderie and connection. “There are so many opportunities here. I feel like I’m just getting started,” says Janey.
